*Spoiler Alert* – This review may give away some plot lines if you haven’t seen the film or read the book it is based on.
I thought this was a very powerful film as it dealt with a great degree of mental instability. It explored many central issues that current day teenagers face thus making it relatable. As the film progressed it became apparent that the protagonist had been raped as a child but failed to appreciate this as he did not understand, at the time, what had actually happened to him.
The film shows the power of friendship and explores the harrowing theme of rape in order to show that mental instability can stem from childhood issues and will grow and grow until it is dealt with.
I would recommend this film as it is highly engaging and shows that mental instability is not a weakness.
